ABOUT US
Esse Architects
“Esse” means “to be.” It comes from the phrase “Esse quam videri,” which translates to “To be, rather than to seem,” the motto of our home state, North Carolina. We took this as our name because we believe in the power of authenticity—valuing substance over appearance and committing to genuine character and action. Our work is about more than just designing buildings. From our studio’s humble roots in a garage to the award-winning firm we are today, we’ve always focused on creating environments to make a meaningful impact.
We start by listening—understanding the unique needs and aspirations of our clients to drive exceptional outcomes. Our process ensures every project reflects the personalities and passions of those who will gather in the spaces we create.
Today, our work spans a diverse range of projects. From community centers and libraries, to parks, municipal facilities, fire stations, and beyond, all that we build is rooted in the belief that great design elevates everyday experiences.
At Esse, we’re partners in your vision, dedicated to turning ideas into reality with an unwavering commitment to excellence. It’s an approach that has worked for our clients for nearly 30 years, and the reason our projects are known for being authentic, welcoming, and vibrant additions to the region we serve.
Every project we take on reflects our belief in architecture’s power to shape communities. Let’s work together to design what can be.
